Samosa Scandal: SP Accuses DGP of Sabotaging CID Leak Investigation"

Shimla: In a dramatic turn of events, the long-dormant “Samosa Scandal” has re-entered the public discourse, following explosive allegations by Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Gandhi against Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Atul Verma.

At a press conference held earlier today, SP Gandhi accused the state’s top police officer of derailing the investigation into the now-infamous leak of a confidential document related to an internal CID report. The leaked report pertained to a hospitality miscommunication during a CID event last year, attended by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, which led to a public and political uproar.

“The leak was not incidental,” Gandhi asserted. “A letter was deliberately taken from the DGP’s office and circulated in a calculated breach of protocol. Evidence points toward the involvement of senior personnel, including members of the DGP’s personal staff.”

SP Gandhi claimed that as the investigation progressed, institutional resistance escalated. “The DGP himself attempted to obstruct the inquiry. I have submitted multiple complaints regarding this interference, which remain unanswered,” he said, underscoring the gravity of the accusations.

The controversy stems from a CID-organized event in 2024, where refreshments — including samosas and cake sourced from a luxury hotel — were intended for the Chief Minister but mistakenly served to his security staff. An internal report was generated following the incident, but its confidential contents were later leaked, causing embarrassment to the state government and raising serious questions about internal security protocols.

The incident was initially dismissed as a minor administrative lapse. However, the leak of the CID report turned the episode into a full-blown controversy, dubbed the “Samosa Scandal” by local media. A formal investigation was initiated by Shimla Police, but according to Gandhi, it was deliberately impeded.
