Shimla – The Shyamla Educational and Social Welfare Trust, Shimla, held an important meeting today to review its major activities from the past year and plan upcoming programs.
During the review, the Trust highlighted several impactful initiatives carried out in Shimla over the last two years. Under the “One Family – One Plant” campaign, nearly 1,000 families in the Gol Pahari area planted 1,000 saplings in a single day, creating a historic example of environmental awareness. The Trust has also distributed more than 25,000 books and notebooks to over 2,500 needy students, and launched a winter campaign to provide warm clothing and blankets to underprivileged families through the “One Family – One Blanket” initiative.
Addressing the growing issue of drug abuse among youth, the Trust conducted a household survey across 3,000 families in Shimla. Based on the findings, a detailed report was submitted to the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, suggesting ways to strengthen sports culture as a preventive measure. A symposium was later organized with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla as chief guest, attended by nearly 900 citizens. The event significantly boosted public support and awareness against drug abuse.
Taking the fight further, the Trust has now launched a state-level initiative titled “Chitte Par Chot” (Strike Against Drugs). Under the banner of Sanjeevani – A Group of NGOs, 17 organizations from across Himachal Pradesh will participate in a workshop scheduled for December 7 in Shimla, aimed at delivering a strong, united message against drug abuse.
