Shimla: In a historic first for Himachal Pradesh, 50 meritorious students from Class XI and XII have set off on an exposure visit to Cambodia and Singapore.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off the delegation on Friday (February 7, 2025), marking a new milestone in the state’s education sector.
The students will travel to Delhi on Friday and depart for their international journey on Saturday. Before the send-off, CM Sukhu took an inspiring walk with the students from his official residence Oak Over to the Secretariat, symbolising the government’s commitment to educational reforms.

Rewarding high-achieving students

This is the first-ever initiative by the state government to send high-achieving students abroad for an educational exposure programme.
During their visit from February 8 to 18, the students will explore leading educational institutions in Cambodia and Singapore. Accompanying them on this landmark visit are Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Higher Education Director Amarjeet Singh.

CM Sukhu targets low scores under BJP regime

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sukhu emphasised that only merit-based students were selected for the tour, ensuring they receive global learning experiences.
He highlighted the government’s transformative initiatives in education, noting that Himachal had slipped to 23rd position in education rankings under the previous BJP government but has now reclaimed the top spot in the latest ASER report.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to quality education, announcing that all government schools in the state had transitioned to English-medium instruction. This international exposure visit, he said, was a stepping stone towards a brighter future for Himachal’s youth.
