Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has approved the decision to abolish 700 posts across various categories in the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB), a decision the existing employees say they would oppose vehemently.
The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board employees, engineers and pensioners have announced to launch an “all-out agitation” against the government.
The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Employees and Engineers Joint Front has expanded its committee, forming the Joint Action Committee of Employees, Engineers and Pensioners.

Symbolic protest planned during lunch hours

The committee’s first meeting is scheduled to take place today at the HPSEB headquarters in Kumar House, Shimla, where plans for a major protest against the government are expected to be finalised.
Employees had long been opposing the abolition of posts and had earlier notified the management that any formal orders to eliminate positions would be met with immediate protests at the board headquarters.
Following the recent board of directors’ meeting, where the decision to abolish 700 posts was confirmed and subsequently approved by the Chief Minister, employees and engineers are set to hold a symbolic protest during lunch hours today at Kumar House.

Strategy for agitation

Joint front leaders said they had repeatedly requested the management to discuss the rationalisation process before any decisions were made in the board meeting.
“However, employees were not invited to participate in these discussions. Now that the decision has been approved by the government, we have called for an urgent meeting today to strategise the next course of action for our movement,” said a front representative.
