MANDI: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in Shimla on Friday for a two-day official visit to Himachal Pradesh, receiving a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival as his helicopter landed at the Annandale helipad from Chandigarh.

Dhankhar was received by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, acting Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari and senior officials from the civil administration and armed forces.

High-security measures in place across Shimla

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Shimla. Vehicular traffic on key routes, including Annandale to Vidhan Sabha and Shilli Chowk to Oak Over, was suspended from 11 am to 12 pm to facilitate the movement of Dhankar’s convoy.

The Shimla police issued advisories to residents, urging them to use alternative routes. Officials warned that improperly parked vehicles would be removed by cranes. Government employees commuting to Kumar House were specifically requested to use personal vehicles only if adequate parking arrangements were available.

Public Engagement on Mall Road

The Vice-President’s motorcade also passed through the historic Mall Road, where he briefly greeted people, acknowledging the warm reception by Shimla’s residents.

To ensure a seamless and secure visit, over 300 police personnel were deployed across the city. Additional forces were also requisitioned. DSP (Traffic) Sandeep Sharma appealed to citizens to avoid restricted routes unless absolutely necessary and to make use of alternative pathways for commuting during the Vice-President’s stay.

To address students at Nauni university on June 7

As part of his official engagements, Vice-President Dhankhar will attend an interactive programme on June 7 at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. He will participate as the chief guest and is expected to address students and faculty on matters of national importance.

The Vice-President’s visit marks a significant moment for Himachal Pradesh, highlighting the Centre’s growing engagement with the region’s academic and administrative institutions.
