Senior BJP leader, former Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, and sitting MLA Vipin Singh Parmar has strongly criticized the state government over the recent unfortunate incident at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. Expressing deep concern, Parmar said the episode reflects not just an isolated lapse but exposes serious shortcomings in law and order, administrative sensitivity and decision-making capacity in the state.
Condemnation of Violence
Parmar condemned both sides involved in the incident, stressing that violence, misconduct, or breach of decorum is unacceptable under any circumstances. “Whether doctors or patients, it is everyone’s responsibility to act with restraint, dialogue, and within the ambit of law,” he stated.
Call for Fair Investigation
He pointed out that videos circulating on social media show only one side of the story, allegedly highlighting a doctor’s fault. However, the root cause of the dispute and the preceding circumstances remain unclear. “Without a comprehensive and impartial investigation, blaming one side is unjust and creates confusion and mistrust in society,” Parmar said.
He added that the government should have handled the matter with patience, sensitivity, and wisdom—by speaking to both parties, examining CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and facts. Instead, the government displayed haste and indecisiveness, worsening the situation.
Respect for the Medical Community
Highlighting the importance of doctors, Parmar emphasized that they earn their place through rigorous national-level examinations, years of study, and training. “Their career, knowledge, and experience are invaluable assets to society. Before holding doctors guilty in any incident, their side must be heard and facts thoroughly examined,” he said.
At the same time, Parmar reiterated that if medical negligence or misconduct is proven, strict action must follow—but based on facts and investigation, not public pressure or viral videos.
Attack on State Government
Launching a sharp attack, Parmar said the Himachal Pradesh government has failed on every front—law and order, healthcare services, administrative control, and public sensitivity. “An incident of this nature at a prestigious institution like IGMC, followed by the government’s unbalanced response, is a living example of its failure,” he remarked.
He warned that the consequences of this failure are being borne by the people: patients feel unsafe, doctors are dissatisfied, and public trust in governance is eroding. “This situation is extremely worrying,” he added.
Demands for Reform
Parmar urged the government to take concrete, permanent, and effective measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents. He called for strengthening hospital security, establishing a transparent grievance redressal system, and improving communication between doctors and patients.
BJP’s Stand
Concluding his statement, Parmar asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party will continue to stand for public interest, respect for doctors, and the rule of law, while exposing every failure of the state government before the people.
