Palampur : Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar has issued a strong statement urging the central government to take decisive action against alleged religious conversion rackets operating in India. He expressed grave concern over reports that Jalaluddin Shah alias Chhangur Baba, based in Uttar Pradesh, had converted thousands of Hindus to Islam over the past 15 years.
Allegations and funding trail
Shanta Kumar claimed that Jalaluddin received approximately ₹500 crore through 40 bank accounts, allegedly routed via Muslim countries and Nepal. He accused Jalaluddin of using financial incentives to lure vulnerable individuals, including around 1,500 poor Hindu girls, into conversion. The former CM described this as part of a broader campaign to turn India into “Islamistan”.
Security and governance concerns
Expressing shock that such activities occurred under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Kumar questioned the role of intelligence agencies. “The entire nation is not only shocked but also distressed and ashamed,” he said.
Action taken
He welcomed the recent crackdown, including the demolition of Jalaluddin’s residence by Yogi Adityanath’s administration and the arrest of Jalaluddin and his associate Neetu alias Nasreen. The Enforcement Directorate is currently interrogating them.
Call for uniform civil code and population control
Shanta Kumar emphasized the urgency of implementing a Uniform Civil Code nationwide. He alleged that some extremists were exploiting personal laws to increase the Muslim population through polygamy and large families. He also called for strict population control measures and immediate action to curb illegal infiltration from Bangladesh and other regions.
In a stark conclusion, Kumar warned that without firm intervention, India could face demands for another partition. “If strict actions are not taken soon, the day is not far when there may be demands for another Pakistan within India,” he cautioned.
