SDM, son killed as massive landslide hits vehicle, 2 other family members seriously injured

DHARAMSHALA:
A Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and his son were *killed while his wife and daughter were seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by a landslide in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.


According to information, Rajinder Singh Raina was posted as the SDM of Ramnagar in Udhampur district. The vehicle carrying the SDM and his family was caught in a massive landslide near Thurupatia Road in the Dharmari area of Reasi. Emergency service personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to a hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment.


Raina was a 2011-batch Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS) officer. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives in the landslide.


In a statement, he conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured that every possible support would be extended to them. “I have directed senior officials to ensure the best possible treatment to the injured and to provide all necessary assistance to the family of Rajinder Singh,” the Lieutenant Governor said.


J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo also paid tribute to the late SDM, describing him as an honest and dedicated officer. In his condolence message, Dulloo said, “Rajinder Singh’s unwavering commitment to public service earned him deep respect among his colleagues and the community. His untimely demise, along with the loss of his young son, is a tremendous blow.”


The Chief Secretary assured that the administration stood in solidarity with the grieving family. “We are making every effort to ensure the best medical care for the injured and to support their recovery in every possible way,” he added.
