In a deeply moving incident from Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, a woman and her daughter-in-law passed away within minutes of each other in Ashapuri village under the Jai Singhpur subdivision.

According to family members, 85-year-old Makodi Devi, wife of late Sarvdayal, di*ed peacefully at her home in Ropri, a small hamlet under Ashapuri panchayat, on Tuesday morning. As relatives gathered around her, her 55-year-old daughter-in-law Rekha Devi was overwhelmed by shock upon seeing her motionless body.

Witnesses said Rekha suddenly turned pale and collapsed. Despite efforts to rush her to a nearby hospital, she died on the way, just 2 km from their home.

Both shared deep bond

Villagers described the two women as inseparable. “Rekha Devi cared for her mother-in-law with great devotion. She would never eat before serving her,” said a neighbour, recalling the close bond they shared.
Both women were cremated side by side at the village cremation ground on Wednesday (October 29, 2025), a gesture reflecting the companionship they shared in life and death.

A similar incident occurred a few months ago in Jahu village of Hamirpur district, where 85-year-old Damodari Devi and her daughter-in-law Reshma Devi also died within an hour of each other. Their joint cremation had left the local community deeply moved.

Residents of Ashapuri say the passing of Makodi and Rekha is not just a coincidence, but a reminder of the emotional strength that can exist within families.
