Rewalsar(Mandi) — In a historic first, the spiritual town of Rewalsar, also known as Trisangam, will host Prarthana Ka Mahasangam on March 7, a day before the revered Techchu Mela begins.
This initiative, spearheaded by Balh Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Smritika Negi, aims to bring together prayers from Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism, symbolizing religious harmony and unity.
A Spiritual Prelude to Techchu Mela
The Techchu Mela—also known as the Tsechu or Chessu Fair—is observed annually on the 10th day of the Tibetan New Year, usually in February or March. This year, the festival will take place from March 8 to 10, commemorating the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava, an 8th-century Buddhist sage who meditated at Rewalsar Lake.
Each year, thousands of devotees from India and beyond gather at the sacred site, reinforcing interfaith connections in the region. The introduction of Prarthana Ka Mahasangam marks an administrative effort to deepen these spiritual ties, making the fair more inclusive.
A Collective Prayer for Unity
Speaking on the initiative, SDM Smritika Negi emphasized the unprecedented nature of this event. “This is the first time that an official event will integrate the prayers of three faiths —a step towards fostering collective spirituality and religious solidarity.
We invite everyone to bring diyas (oil lamps) from their homes as a symbol of shared faith and unity” she said.
The gathering will see Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist prayers offered in succession, creating a symphony of devotion that transcends religious boundaries. This initiative is expected to strengthen communal bonds, promoting mutual respect and understanding among different faith groups.
A New Tradition in the Making
The inclusion of Prarthana Ka Mahasangam in the Techchu Mela could set a precedent for future interfaith events in India. Organizers hope that this collective prayer movement will evolve into an annual tradition, fostering deeper spiritual connections in Rewalsar.
As the town prepares for the Mahasangam, expectations are high for a historic evening of prayer and unity. Devotees and visitors are encouraged to gather at Rewalsar on March 7, post 6:00 PM, to witness and participate in this landmark spiritual convergence.
