Palampur: A crucial meeting aimed at improving traffic management in Palampur was held on Thursday (June 12, 2025) under the chairmanship of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Netra Meti.
The focus was on streamlining vehicular movement, reducing congestion and enhancing commuting convenience for the public.
The meeting saw participation from Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokendra Negi, HRTC Sub-Divisional Manager Uttam, officials from the Public Works Department and representatives of the Palampur Trade Association, including president Surinder Sood and general secretary Bhrigu.
Extensive discussions were held on measures to decongest key areas and ensure smoother traffic flow. A key decision taken was to reroute all Volvo buses via Kalu Di Hatti towards Baijnath between 5 am and 8 am to ease the traffic burden near the Sabzi Mandi area.

To manage congestion at the Palampur Old Bus Stand, the SDM directed that no more than two buses be allowed to halt at a time and only for a maximum of five minutes. She further instructed the police department to enforce the one-way traffic system in the area with strict compliance.
The trader association was also advised to regulate the loading and unloading of goods outside shops, limiting these activities to designated hours to prevent disruption to traffic during peak times.
Another important outcome of the meeting was the formation of a joint committee under the SDM’s leadership, comprising officials from the Municipal Corporation, police and the PWD. This committee will conduct regular drives to remove encroachments within the urban limits of Palampur.
SDM Meti stressed that effective traffic management could only be achieved through the active cooperation of local residents, business owners and enforcement agencies.
