One-Day Training on Waste Management under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 held in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh

A one-day training workshop on solid and liquid waste management was organised under the joint aegis of the Directorate of Urban Development, Himachal Pradesh, and the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 at the Municipal Council Chamba. The program was conducted by the sanitation knowledge partner, Himalayan Institute for Environment, Ecology and Development (HIFEED).

The workshop saw participation from officials of the Municipal Councils of Chamba, Dalhousie, and Chuwari, along with sanitation inspectors, supervisors, school teachers, trade organizations, and representatives of self-help groups.

During the training, experts provided detailed insights on:

  • Solid and liquid waste management practices
  • Household and bulk waste generators
  • Source segregation of waste
  • Swachh Survekshan guidelines
  • Behavior change strategies
  • Leadership and operational management

The provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 were also discussed extensively.

The event was attended by Mrs. Neelam Nayar (Chairperson, Municipal Council Chamba), councillors, Executive Officer Mrs. Rakhi Kaushal, Junior Engineer Ms. Nitika Thakur, and officials from Dalhousie and Chuwari.

Subject experts from HIFEED, including Mr. Gyan Prakash Mishra, Mr. Prakash Dutt Bhatia, Mr. Anil Panyuli, and Mr. Subhash Sharma, conducted the training sessions.

The workshop emphasized the collective responsibility of stakeholders in making Chamba and surrounding towns garbage-free and sustainable.
