Chamba: The body of a newborn baby girl was discovered in the bushes along a canal in the Sangehra area of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, sending shockwaves in the region.
The canal is part of a hydroelectric project that flows between Sangehra and Baroh in the Palyur panchayat.
According to local reports, a passerby noticed the infant’s body lying near the canal and immediately informed the panchayat pradhan. Upon reaching the scene and confirming the situation, the pradhan alerted the police.
The police arrived promptly and took the body into custody. The authorities also began questioning residents in the vicinity to gather any leads.
The newborn’s body was then transported to the Chamba Medical College for examination.
In parallel, the health department has initiated efforts to identify the mother. ASHA workers have been tasked with collecting information about pregnant women registered in the region.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation was underway. “We have taken possession of the body and sent it for medical examination at Chamba Medical College. The investigation is ongoing,” SP Yadav said.
