Kullu: In a major boost to regional connectivity and tourism, flights between Kullu’s Bhuntar airport and Jammu are set to commence by the end of October under the Central Government’s UDAN-5 (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme.

The new route will make it easier for residents of Kullu, Mandi and Lahaul-Spiti to travel to Jammu, particularly for visiting the revered shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. The fare for this flight has been capped at an affordable Rs 2,500, making it accessible to a broader section of people.

Will be operated by Alliance Air

The Airports Authority of India has already begun preparations for this new route, with the timetable expected to be finalised by the first week of October. The flight service, operated by Alliance Air, is anticipated to give a significant boost to tourism in both Jammu and Kullu-Manali, particularly during the upcoming winter season when snowfall transforms Manali and Lahaul-Spiti into popular tourist destinations.

New routes expanding Kullu’s air network

This addition to Bhuntar airport’s connectivity comes after the successful implementation of other routes under the UDAN scheme, including flights from Kullu to Amritsar and Kullu to Dehradun on 72-seater planes. A direct flight from Kullu to Jaipur is also set to begin on October 14, further enhancing connectivity. With Jammu being added to the network, the tourism sector is expected to flourish, benefiting both local businesses and the general public.

Tourism is a key industry in Kullu-Manali and Lahaul-Spiti and increased air connectivity is seen as a game-changer, especially with the winter season approaching. Manali and Lahaul-Spiti are known for their stunning snowfall, making them dream destinations for domestic and international tourists alike.
