In a major step against narcotics trafficking, the competent authority has ordered the preventive detention of three habitual drug traffickers under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS Act). The action follows detailed dossiers prepared by Nurpur Police and submitted to the Himachal Pradesh Government, highlighting repeated involvement of the accused in drug smuggling activities that posed a serious threat to public order and safety.

The individuals detained are:

  1. Dalviro, wife of Ajay Kumar, resident of Channi village, Indora tehsil, Kangra district.
  2. Khanna, son of Setha Ram, resident of Channi village, Indora tehsil, Kangra district.
  3. Raj Kumar alias Sethi, son of Daulat Ram, resident of Bhadroya village, Indora tehsil, Kangra district.

After examining the evidence, the Home Secretary of Himachal Pradesh issued formal detention orders on February 17, 2026. The three accused have since been lodged in District Jail and Correctional Home, Kangra (Dharamshala), where they will remain in preventive custody for three months. The orders have also been communicated to the Central Government under Section 3(2) of the Act.

This decisive move underscores Nurpur Police’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and protecting society, particularly the youth, from the menace of narcotics. Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information related to drug trafficking with the police, assuring that all inputs will be kept confidential
