MANDI: Mandi Municipal Commissioner Rohit Rathore said that truth and non-violence are not just legacies of the Gandhian era but guiding principles for the younger generation as well. Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti in Mandi, he remarked that Gandhiji’s philosophy continues to inspire purity and honesty in political, social and personal life.
“Amid corruption, violence, and inequality of today’s times, the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi become even more relevant. A society based on truth and non-violence forms the real foundation of progress, and this would be the truest tribute to Gandhiji,” Rathore said. He urged the youth to learn from the life of Gandhi and contribute to nation-building.
Earlier in the morning, Gandhi Jayanti celebrations began with a Prabhat Pheri at 6 am from Seri Manch, resounding with chants of “Mahatma Gandhi Amar Rahe, Lal Bahadur Shastri Amar Rahe, Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram.”
Accompanied by Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans and patriotic songs, the procession passed through Chouhata Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Girls’ School, Balkarupi Temple, Sanatan Dharam Sabha and the Post Office, before returning to Seri Manch. After a round of Sankan Garden Complex, the Prabhat Pheri concluded at Gandhi Chowk.
At Gandhi Chowk, prominent citizens, schoolchildren and administrative officers joined in offering floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Those present included Mandi Sadar SDM Rupinder Kaur, Tehsildar Prince Dhiman, Krishna Tandon, Akash Sharma, Ravi Vaidya, Tosh Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Shamsher Singh Minhas, Anupama Singh, Nirmal Verma and Sanjay Sharma.
The day’s events culminated with an all-religion prayer meeting at Gandhi Bhawan where participants paid homage through collective prayers, reaffirming the values of peace, unity and harmony.
