Mandi’s Mandavya Kala Manch bags first prize in district-level folk dance competition

Mandi: The Mandavya Kala Manch, a local folk art and cultural group in Mandi, bagged the first prize in the district-level folk dance competition organized by the district language and culture department at Sanskritik Sadan on Tuesday. Dev Badyogi Kala Manch from Karsog secured the second prize, closely followed by the Sunidhi Group from Baggi in the third position.WhatsApp Image 2024 01 11 at 16.53.35

The district-level folk dance competition showcased glimpses of the rich folk and cultural diversity of Mandi, highlighting efforts to promote, preserve, and nurture these prosperous traditions and cultural practices.

Local artists from across the district captivated the audience with performances rooted in the region’s folk traditions, featuring traditional dances with musical instruments, deity worship dances, Ludhi (a traditional dance form), Nagariya dance, Saraji Nati, and Gidda.WhatsApp Image 2024 01 11 at 16.53.51

Thirteen cultural groups from the district participated in the competition, representing various colleges and cultural platforms, including Nobel College of Education, Pandoh, ITI Mandi, Mandavya Kala Manch Mandi, Shangal Musical Group, Gulad, Gohar, Shri Ghatotkach Ashu Devta Committee Davaanu, Bhimsen Yuva Mandal Davaanu, Thachi, Dev Badyogi Bagshad Karsog, Baba Kamalahiya Lok Kala Manch Dharampur, Amar Yuva Mandal Saraj, Mandi Saraj Lok Nritya Dal Bali Chouki, Kamaksha Lok Nritya Dal Karsog, Sunidhi Group Vaggi Sundernagar, Jagriti College Devdhar Kotli, and Jagriti Teacher Training College Devdhar.

The competition commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Mandi ADC Nivedita Negi, who highlighted the richness of Mandi district’s culture. She emphasized the need to preserve this glorious culture that is on the verge of extinction.

Youth services and sports officer Deepti Vaidya educated the youth about voting awareness under the Swachh Bharat programme. District language officer Promila Guleria expressed gratitude to guests and artists, acknowledging the crucial role of the judges panel in the competition.
