MANDI (Munish Sood)
In a bold step towards empowering the youth and channelling their energy in the right direction, Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan has launched the ‘Apna Pustakalaya’ campaign.
With an unwavering commitment to the welfare of society, Devgan envisions a future where every young mind has access to quality educational resources, ensuring they stay engaged in constructive pursuits rather than falling prey to negative influences.
Mission to build a knowledge-based society
Recognising the importance of education in shaping the future, Apoorv Devgan has spearheaded the establishment of libraries at the sub-divisional level across Mandi district.
These libraries are designed to serve as knowledge hubs, offering students the resources they need to excel in competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, NDA, HAS, police and patwari.
To strengthen the initiative, the district administration has also launched a book collection drive, urging senior citizens, intellectuals and young professionals who have successfully cleared competitive exams to donate their books.
Devgan believes that unused books at home can become a lifeline for aspirants who lack access to quality study material.
Community participation in education
In a heartfelt appeal, DC Apoorv Devgan has urged the public to actively participate in this noble cause. “Education is the foundation of a progressive society. Through ‘Apna Pustakalaya’, we are not just setting up libraries but igniting a culture of knowledge-sharing that will benefit generations to come,” he said.
To make book donations convenient, individuals can drop off books at their nearest library, SDM office or the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Additionally, special stalls will be set up at the International Shivratri Festival in Seri Manch and other district fairs to collect books.
Ensuring quality and relevance
While encouraging donations, the Deputy Commissioner has also emphasised quality standards. Books should not be more than four years old, be in a good condition (not torn or damaged) and be relevant and updated editions.
With Devgan’s proactive leadership, the ‘Apna Pustakalaya’ initiative is rapidly expanding. Libraries are already operational at the district and sub-divisional headquarters, and efforts are being made to enhance existing ones.
In Sarkaghat, the Tehsil Library at the Mini Secretariat is being improved.
In Karsog, a new and larger library hall is being set up.
The library in Ner Chowk has been successfully completed.
Sundernagar’s Municipal Council is managing a library, and another one is being planned.
New libraries also coming up in Dharampur, Sandhol, Thunag, Janjehli, Balichowki, Padhar, Kotli and Jogindernagar.
Vision beyond books: Creating a cultural hub
For Apoorv Devgan, ‘Apna Pustakalaya’ is not just about books—it’s about creating a space where senior citizens, intellectuals and youth can interact and exchange knowledge.
“Reading is a habit that needs to be nurtured in today’s generation. If we provide the right resources, we can guide our youth toward a brighter future, away from distractions like substance abuse,” he emphasised.
With an unwavering commitment to the district’s development, Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan has set an example of how administration can drive meaningful social change. His visionary leadership is ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, gets the opportunity to dream big and achieve their goals.
