MANDI: The Indian Institute of Technology-Mandi (IIT Mandi) is all set to mark its 16th foundation day on February 24, 2025, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Rajnath Singh’s presence is expected to underscore the critical link between technological advancement and national security, while also highlighting the role of premier institutes like IIT-Mandi in shaping India’s future.
Founded in 2009, IIT-Mandi has emerged as a hub for cutting-edge research, innovation and world-class education in technology. With its motto “Scaling the Heights”, the institute has consistently contributed to India’s academic and research ecosystem, nurturing talent and fostering groundbreaking innovations.
Celebrating legacy of innovation, excellence
The 16th foundation day will not just be a celebration of IIT-Mandi’s journey but also a reflection of its growing impact on India’s education and innovation.
A special video screening will take attendees through the institute’s evolution — its milestones, challenges and successes — offering a glimpse into its transformative role over the years.
The event will also host an array of distinguished guests who have made significant contributions to education, governance and technology.
They include Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice-Chancellor, CSJM University, Kanpur; Gokul Butail, Principal Adviser to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, and Dr Amit Kumar Pandey, CTO, Robotics and AI, Rovial Space, France.
All of them will be guests of honour, sharing their insights on the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, research, and education.
The function will be presided over by Lt Gen Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon (Retd.), Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT-Mandi, whose leadership continues to guide the institute towards excellence.
Recognising talent and dedication
A significant part of the celebrations will be the Foundation Day Awards, designed to honour exceptional contributions made by students, faculty, alumni and staff.
These awards not only celebrate academic and research excellence but also recognise achievements in sports and professional development.
Key awards to be presented include Young Faculty Fellow Award, Young Achiever Award (Faculty/Alumni), Students Academic Excellence Award and Students Technology Award.
These accolades aim to inspire the IIT-Mandi community to continue pushing boundaries and achieving new heights in their respective fields.
