In a significant escalation of their anti-drug initiative ‘Mission Clean’, the Shimla police have arrested five persons over the past 24 hours, seizing various narcotics and substantial cash.
In Nerwa region of Chopal in Shimla district, 26-year-old Saurav, son of Arjun Singh from Basa village in Nerwa tehsil, was arrested during a routine vehicle inspection. The police seized 6.17 grams of smack from his possession.
In Taklech in Rampur, a patrol near Kuki Darakali led to the arrest of Humnand (57), son of Santlal from Kadakghar Darakali village, with 43 grams of charas.
In Rampur’s Bhadraash, Kuldeep (29), son of the late Chandi Ram from Motaur village in Kalyat tehsil of Kaithal district in Haryana, was found in possession of 1.92 grams of chitta during a patrol near Dohri Mod.
In Fagu area of Shimla district’s Theog tehsil, a search of an i10 car (HP-09B-6002) resulted in the arrest of Jeet Ram (30), son of Diwan Singh from Aod village under Sarog post office, with 64.45 grams of opium and Rs 2 lakh in cash.
Ongoing anti-drug efforts
The Shimla police have made significant progress in their anti-drug operations over the past few years. In the last year alone, approximately 630 individuals were arrested, and 300 cases were registered.
Over the past two years, 1,400 arrests have been made and 700 plus cases filed. These statistics demonstrate the police’s serious commitment to eliminating drug peddling activities and sending a strong message to society. 
Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi’s firm stance
Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Gandhi emphasised that those involved in drug trafficking, whether local dealers or members of interstate gangs, would face strict action. The police were dedicated to completely dismantling the drug supply chain, he said.
These recent actions underscored the Shimla police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, he said.
