In a deeply disturbing incident, a woman in Mandi suffered severe injuries after her husband allegedly threw acid on her and pushed her off the first floor of their residence. The victim, identified as Mamta, is in critical condition and has been referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for specialised treatment.
According to police sources, Nand Lal—Mamta’s husband and the prime accused—first doused her with acid and then allegedly pushed her from the first floor during an altercation. Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing the woman’s desperate cries and immediately shifted her to the Zonal Hospital, Mandi.
ASP Abhimanyu Verma, who arrived at the hospital shortly after receiving the information, confirmed that Mamta had sustained over 50% burn injuries. “Given the seriousness of her condition, she has been referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for advanced medical care,” he said.
Initially, police believed the accused had fled. However, during an intensive search of the property, officers discovered Nand Lal hiding on the upper floor of the house with the door bolted from inside. He was apprehended on the spot and taken into custody.
The couple, originally from Sarkaghat, had recently moved to Sain Mohalla, Mandi, and were involved in an ongoing family dispute that was under judicial consideration. Nand Lal runs a tea shop in the locality.
Police have registered a case and said the investigation is being conducted on priority due to the gravity of the assault. The incident has sparked widespread concern across Mandi, once again highlighting the urgent need to address escalating domestic violence and ensure stronger protection mechanisms for women.
