Amid preparations for celebrating two years in power, the Himachal Pradesh government is also preparing to appoint chairpersons and vice-chairpersons to various boards and corporations.
Aspirants seeking these positions are actively lobbying influential leaders in the government, with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expected to make these appointments soon, following a green signal from the party high command.
Over a dozen positions in boards, corporations and other bodies are currently vacant, and several of these are likely to be filled soon.
CM ‘secures’ green signal from high command
Recently, the Chief Minister returned to Shimla after meeting central leaders in New Delhi, further fuelling anticipation among hopeful candidates.
In a precursor to these appointments, three new members were recently inducted into the Board of Directors of the Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC). These additions are seen as a step towards filling the position of HPMC Vice-Chairperson. Notably, the chairperson of the HPMC is traditionally the Horticulture Minister.
Key boards, corporations where posts are vacant
Several other prominent positions are also expected to be filled in the coming days, including the posts of chairperson or vice-chairperson for organisations like Himfed, Milkfed, Labour Welfare Board, Gudiya Saksham Board, Child Welfare Council, Marketing Board, Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, Khadi Board, Wool Federation, HRTC and Disaster Management Board.
Additionally, the post of Chairperson for the State Women’s Commission remains vacant — a position that was promptly filled during previous governments but has yet to see an appointment in the two years of the current administration.
Sources said Chief Minister Sukhu had already consulted with the party high command, and decisions were expected soon.
Aspirants intensify lobbying for coveted positions
Congress leaders vying for these positions have been cosying up to the Chief Minister, citing their credentials and long-standing contributions to the party.
Many are seen frequenting the Chief Minister’s residence Oak Over, Secretariat and other locations where he is accessible, hoping to secure a favourable nod.
