A case of sexual harassment involving female students has surfaced at a government school in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The Kullu Mahila police station has registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused and initiated further legal action.

The accused, a teacher at a government school in Kharahal valley, is alleged to have sexually harassed minor girls studying at the school. The incident came to light when the project coordinator of the child welfare committee filed a complaint at the police station.

The complainant alleged that the teacher had sexually harassed several minor girls attending the middle school.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police immediately registered a case and commenced legal proceedings against the accused teacher.

A senior police official said a case had been registered under the POCSO Act and a thorough investigation was underway. He said the teacher was absconding and a manhunt had been launched to nab him.

At this point, only two female students have recorded their statements with the police. The authorities believe that more students may have been harassed, but they are yet to come forward.

The police have asked other victims to report their experiences to support the investigation.

A few social activists said such cases had come to light in Kullu district earlier as well and now the parents had started panicking due to the reoccurrence of such cases in educational institutions.
