Kangra’s Dr. Manu Sharma Becomes Himachal’s First Gold Medalist Retina Specialist

Dr. Manu Sharma, a resident of Gaggal in Kangra district, has brought laurels to Himachal Pradesh by becoming the state’s first female retina specialist to win a Gold Medal in vitreoretinal surgery.

She achieved this distinction by successfully completing the FAICO (Fellowship of All India Collegium of Ophthalmology) in vitreoretinal surgery. Currently, Dr. Sharma is pursuing her M.Ch. super-specialty degree in vitreoretinal surgery at PGI Chandigarh.

The convocation ceremony of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) was held on February 1 in New Delhi, where former Supreme Court judge Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud graced the occasion as chief guest. On this prestigious platform, Dr. Sharma was awarded the Gold Medal and fellowship certificate. The ceremony was attended by AIOS Collegium Board Chairman Dr. Lalit Verma, President Dr. Partha Biswas, Secretary Dr. Santosh Honhar, and several eminent ophthalmologists from across the country.

Adding to her achievements, Dr. Sharma also secured first place in the Best Photo Competition at the Asia-Pacific Ophthalmological Society Conference held in Hong Kong on February 5–6.

Dr. Manu Sharma expressed her commitment to serve her home state after completing her degree, saying she wishes to contribute her expertise to Himachal Pradesh. Her success marks a proud moment for Kangra and the entire state.
