As Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu toured Kangra district, the BJP intensified its criticism of the Congress government for neglecting the long-pending Central University (CU) campus project here. Advocate Vishav Chakshu, the BJP’s State Media Co-Incharge and former media advisor to ex-CM Jairam Thakur, issued a press statement accusing the government of failing to release ₹30 crore essential for the project’s progress.

Chakshu called it “a shameful act of neglect,” blaming the Congress government for jeopardizing ₹250 crore allocated by the Central Government for the campus. “This delay is an outright betrayal of Kangra’s youth and their future,” he remarked, emphasizing that the CM avoided questions about the issue during his visit.

Chakshu said that if no announcement is made during the CM’s Kangra tour, the party, along with its youth wing, will organize statewide protests to demand accountability. “For 15 years, the Central University campus has remained a distant dream while other states have successfully developed their central universities,” he lamented.

The criticism didn’t stop there. BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma also targeted the CM, alleging that his Kangra tour is focused solely on inaugurating centrally funded schemes, claiming credit for projects driven by the BJP-led Central Government. “Kangra deserves better than hollow announcements and ribbon-cutting ceremonies,” Sharma remarked.

Chakshu further highlighted discrimination against Kangra, contrasting the government’s allocation of ₹300 crore to Dehra constituency while neglecting the ₹30 crore required for the Dharamshala CU campus. He accused the Sukhu-led government of undermining the region’s development and stalling a project that could benefit thousands of students.

The BJP leader expressed gratitude to senior leader and former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar for consistently advocating for the CU campus and urged the Congress government to honor its responsibility.

“This negligence is pushing Kangra’s people toward protests,” Chakshu said, emphasizing the growing frustration among residents over the lack of action. He concluded by demanding immediate steps from the Sukhu government to release the required funds and fulfill its commitments to Kangra.

As the political heat rises, the Sukhu government faces mounting pressure to address public concerns about the CU campus and other developmental issues during the CM’s Kangra visit.
