DHARAMSHALA: A 23-year-old youth from Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh is among the 112 Indians who were deported from the US for illegally residing in the country.
Rohit and 111 other illegal Indian immigrants landed in Amritsar in a special US military flight on Sunday (February 16, 2025). It was the third flight of Indian deportees to be sent back by the US after Donald Trump took over the presidency recently.
Born on March 8, 2001, Rohit, as per the deportation documents, is the son of Balwinder Singh. His residence has been shown at Milwan village under Ulehrian post office of Indora tehsil in Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.
Left Himachal to work in UAE in July 2024
Rohit had departed from India to the UAE on July 18, 2024, in an IndiGo flight (6E-1427) and his purpose of visit was shown as employment. From the UAE, Rohit took a ‘dunki’ route to the US where he was caught by the border patrol police and deported to India.
Another youth from Himachal Pradesh was deported in the second flight carrying 117 illegal Indian immigrants that had landed in Amritsar on February 15.
Maximum from Haryana in third flight
The US Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft landed at Amritsar international airport around 10.03 pm on Sunday.
Among the 111 deportees, 31 were from Punjab, 44 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, two from Uttar Pradesh and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Some families were present at the airport to welcome their wards.
The deportees will be allowed to return home after completing necessary formalities, including immigration, verification, and background checks. Transportation arrangements have been made to take them to their destinations, the sources added.
