Kangana Ranaut slams SP MP for insulting Rajput warrior Rana Sanga


MANDI: Bollywood actress and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut has strongly defended Rajput warrior Rana Sanga, calling him a symbol of self-respect and freedom, in response to remarks made by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman.


Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Ranaut, who hails from a Rajput family, underscored the significance of Rana Sanga’s legacy.


“Rana Sanga was a warrior who fought for his people, for self-respect and for the freedom of his land. His courage and sacrifice are an inspiration to generations,” she asserted.


The controversy erupted after the SP MP allegedly made comments downplaying the contributions of Rajput warriors in Indian history.

SP MP accused of distorting facts

His statement triggered sharp reactions from Rajput organisations and BJP leaders, who accused him of distorting historical facts. The situation escalated further when members of a Rajput group allegedly vandalised the MP’s residence, leading his son to file a police complaint.


The incident has intensified political tensions between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party, with both sides engaging in a war of words.


The SP leadership condemned the attack on the MP’s residence and demanded strict action against those responsible. On the other hand, BJP leaders, including Ranaut, have maintained that any attempt to undermine historical figures like Rana Sanga will not be tolerated.

Kangana reiterates stance on protecting historical legacy

Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken views on nationalism and cultural heritage, reiterated her stance on protecting India’s historical legacy.


“Our history is filled with valiant warriors who stood against oppression. Any attempt to undermine their sacrifices will be met with strong opposition,” she stated.


The controversy has further fuelled the ongoing ideological battle between the BJP and opposition parties over the interpretation of historical figures and their contributions to India’s past.


Ranaut’s remarks, emphasising her Rajput heritage and nationalist stance, have added another layer to the growing political debate.

Who was Rana Sanga?

Rana Sanga, born as Maharana Sangram Singh-I in 1482, was the ruler of Mewar from 1509 to 1528. A scion of the Sisodia dynasty, he is celebrated for his valour and leadership in uniting various Rajput clans against external threats.


During his reign, he expanded his kingdom to encompass regions of present-day Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, with Chittor as his capital.


Rana Sanga’s military prowess was evident in numerous battles against the Delhi Sultanate, Gujarat Sultanate and Malwa Sultanate. He played a significant role in resisting the Mughal invasion led by Babur. Despite facing personal injuries and adversities, his commitment to defending his realm remained unwavering until his death in 1528.
