Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has called for stringent action against AIMIM leader Shoaib Jamai for allegedly attempting to disrupt the peace in Shimla. Thakur’s remarks came during a press briefing in Mandi, where he expressed concern over the incident involving an illegal mosque in the city.
According to Thakur, the mosque in question had been sealed by the police and administration due to its illegal construction. However, Jamai allegedly forced his way into the premises and recorded a video, which Thakur claims was an attempt to inflame communal tensions. “The AIMIM leader, in his video, spoke about demolishing the building opposite the mosque, citing its height, without realizing that the building was legally constructed, while the mosque itself was illegal,” Thakur said.
He further accused Jamai of deliberately trying to hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community by creating and sharing such content. Thakur also noted that an FIR had been registered against the AIMIM leader but insisted that the government’s response should not stop there. He urged the state authorities to take stronger action to prevent such attempts at disturbing peace in the future.
Thakur Criticizes Vikramaditya Singh’s Policy Adoption
Jairam Thakur also took the opportunity to address a statement made by Cabinet Minister Vikramaditya Singh regarding the identification of street vendors. Singh recently proposed that all street vendors be required to display identification cards, a move Thakur claimed was originally introduced by his own government.

“When our government proposed this policy, Congress leaders ridiculed it. Now, the same leaders are implementing it,” Thakur remarked. While he agreed with the decision, he expressed doubt over how long Singh would stand by his statement, referencing a similar situation involving another Congress leader, Anirudh Singh, who had to backtrack on a statement under pressure.
Kangana’s Statement on Farmers is Personal, Not Party View: Thakur
When questioned about recent controversial remarks made by actress and MP Kangana Ranaut regarding farmers, Jairam Thakur clarified that her statement reflected her personal views and did not represent the position of the party. “The party has already clarified its stance, and Kangana herself has also responded on the matter,” he added, distancing the party from the controversy surrounding the actress.
Thakur’s clarification came after Kangana faced criticism for her remarks, with some political leaders seeking further clarification from the party.
