Mandi-origin Dr Kanika Kaushal does Himachal & India proud, receives prestigious medical award in Beijing


MANDI: Dr Kanika Kaushal, a distinguished medical professional from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, has once again made India proud by receiving the prestigious Presidential Award at the 34th Annual Conference of the Asia-Pacific Association for the Study of Liver (APASL 2025).


The event was held at Beijing in China from March 26 to 30, 2025. Dr Kanika Kaushal, who is currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), Delhi, presented her research paper at the conference.


Competing against top medical experts from the Asia-Pacific region, her work stood out, earning her a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of 5,000 Yuan. Her groundbreaking research also contributed to ILBS-Delhi being recognised as the ‘Best Institute in Asia’.

Legacy of academic excellence

Dr Kanika Kaushal, the daughter of retired Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Chief Engineer Naveen Kaushal and banker Sunita Sharma, has consistently excelled in the field of hepatology.
She has previously presented her research at esteemed international conferences, including twice in the US as well as in France and Italy.


With an impressive record of 69 research papers published in national and international journals, she continues to make significant contributions to liver disease research.


She completed her MBBS from Tanda Medical College in Kangra and pursued her MD from the IGMC-Shimla. A resident of Moti Bazaar in Mandi, she comes from a highly accomplished family. Her younger sister, Dr Mallika Kaushal, is an MD in anesthesia and is currently working at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
