SHIMLA: A case of ragging has come to light at a private university in Kandaghat area of Solan district in Himachal Pradesh that is located 28 km from state capital Shimla. A first-year student has accused senior students of physically assaulting and harassing him, prompting an investigation by the local authorities.

The victim lodged a formal complaint at the Kandaghat police station, alleging that a group of final year students had been tormenting him for several days. According to the complaint, two days back the seniors forcibly took him to a room where they beat him, causing injuries. The student described the ongoing harassment, stating that it had escalated into physical violence.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly registered a case and have initiated an investigation. “We have received a complaint regarding ragging at the university and our investigation is underway,” said Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh. “The accused students will be questioned and only then will the full truth come to light,” he said.

In response to the incident, the university convened a meeting of its anti-ragging committee on Monday. However, the senior students involved in the allegations did not attend the meeting, raising further concerns about the situation. “The incident has drawn attention to the need for stricter enforcement of anti-ragging laws and greater vigilance in educational institutions.

The investigation is expected to continue, with authorities pledging to take appropriate action once the facts are fully established,” said an official of the local administration.
