Mandi: In a shocking yet courageous move, a woman in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district took a tough stand against her drug-addict son by getting him arrested.

The incident took place at Kathyaun village in Balh Valley of Mandi district where the 32-year-old man had been struggling with heroin (chitta) addiction for a long time.

Despite his mother’s repeated efforts to rehabilitate him, he refused to quit drugs. Fearing that his addiction might lead to his death, the distressed mother finally called the police and handed over her son.

Police raid house, seize chitta

Responding to the mother’s call, a police team raided the house and recovered 5.8 grams of chitta from the accused.

The youth was immediately taken into custody and presented before a local court, which sent him on a two-day police remand for further interrogation.

According to sources, the mother had been trying to reform her son for a long time, but when he continued to get deeper into addiction, she was left with no choice but to seek police intervention.

Arrested youth was once a promising wrestler, boxer

The case highlights the growing drug menace in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in the Balh region of Mandi.

The area has witnessed an alarming rise in drug-related cases with multiple reports of chitta abuse and overdose deaths. Just last month, a young man lost his life due to a drug overdose in Balh.
The arrested youth was once a promising wrestler and boxer and even secured selection at SAI Hostel. However, failing to secure a job, he turned to drugs, which eventually ruined his career and life.
