Palampur : Businessman Nishant Sharma, who had been pursuing legal proceedings against senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, addressed a press conference at the Palampur Press Club on Sunday, raising serious concerns over reports stating that a closure report had been filed by the police before the Dharamshala court—despite the matter being pending before the High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
Sharma stated that the intervention of the judiciary and the support of the media had been critical in safeguarding his life amidst alleged threats and unlawful surveillance. “I believe I am alive only because of the timely protection extended by the courts and the role played by the media—both pillars of democracy,” he said.
Referring to the reported closure report, Sharma reiterated that the matter was still sub judice. “Over the past few days, certain media outlets reported that a closure report had been submitted. The manner in which it was presented appeared to create a narrative that nothing had happened. However, this appears to be part of a larger conspiracy, and the media should remain cautious and not become a tool in the hands of those attempting to influence public perception. I reiterate—the matter was sub judice,” he told journalists.
Reaffirming the allegations he had made in 2023, Sharma said he had been attacked and subjected to illegal surveillance. He voiced concern over the alleged leak of the cancellation report, calling it a possible contempt of court. He also referred to relevant orders from the Himachal Pradesh High Court in support of his claim.
Earlier, the High Court had directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to incorporate few important sections in the FIR lodged by Sharma. The court had also identified lapses in the original investigation and ordered a more comprehensive and impartial probe.
To ensure a fair investigation, the High Court had recommended the transfer of the then Director General of Police (DGP) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kangra from their postings.
While stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in the investigation process, Sharma clarified, “I was never against the police force. There are many honest and upright officers in the department whom I have always appreciated.”
