A major case of fraud has surfaced in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh where a company has allegedly swindled crores of rupees from hundreds of people in Ghumarwin and Jhanduta regions, promising to double their investments.
The victims, realising they had been duped, lodged a complaint at Talai police station. Two months ago, customers discovered the fraud and confronted company officials.
The officials assured them that their money would be returned within two months, but no repayments have been made. The company’s owner and officials have since absconded, closing their office in Berthin.
The complainants alleged that the fraudsters, under the name FX Trade One Company, advertised a scheme promising to double the money in 30 months. The local officials persuaded hundreds of people to invest from Rs 1.60 lakh to Rs 50 lakh in their savings scheme.
The company started returning money, but the payments stopped after six months. When questioned, the company officials promised returns after some time. However, they changed the company’s name and shifted the office from Berthin to Punjab before disappearing. Talai police officials said an investigation is underway.
