Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has declared the Metropole building, which houses the residence of MLAs, unsafe and instructed that no legislators be allotted accommodation in the building.
The decision was made after discussions with Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania. The announcement was made in response to concerns raised by BJP MLA Vipin Singh Parmar.
New building to be constructed, will have adequate parking
In response to Vipin Singh Parmar’s question, Chief Minister Sukhu said the government had approved a budget of Rs 38 crore for the construction of a new building.
Sukhu also said that if the cost exceeds Rs 100 crore, the government was prepared to bear the additional expenses. The new building will include a designated parking facility within its premises, ensuring that all needs were met under one roof.
Relocation, financial assistance for employees
As part of the government’s plan, employees currently residing in the Metropole building will be provided alternative accommodation.
The state plans to allocate housing for them with rental assistance ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. The Chief Minister assured that the Metropol building would be completely vacated within the next two months to ensure the safety of all occupants.
