SHIMLA: Four national highways and 338 roads continued to be closed for traffic across Himachal Pradesh till 10 am on Wednesday (February 7, 2024).

The highest 151 roads are blocked in Lahaul-Spiti district, following by 59 roads in Shimla, 50 in Kullu, 28 in Mandi and 46 in Chamba district. Apart from this, electricity supply is disrupted in many areas due to failure of 123 power transformers while 35 drinking water supply schemes too have been stalled.

The Border Roads Organisation has started the work of restoring the roads of Lahaul at a rapid pace. The BRO’s 94 RCC is busy in restoring the road from Tandi to the North Portal of Atal Tunnel in Rohtang for double-lane vehicular movement. From Tandi to Sissu, the BRO has cleared snow from the road and opened it for double-lane traffic. Now, the work of removing snow is going on between Sissu and Pagalnala.

As soon as the weather cleared in Lahaul valley, the BRO’s 94 RCC started the restoration work of the road from Udaipur to Tindi, Karga and Udaipur and from Tandi to the North Portal of Rohtang Atal Tunnel. The BRO had earlier restored the single line road from Tandi to the North Portal of Atal Tunnel only for 4X4 vehicles. The BRO has deployed six machines on this route from Udaipur to the North Portal.

Due to clear weather in Mandi district for the second consecutive day, the work of restoring the roads closed due to snowfall is going on at a fast pace. Four roads in Seraj area have been restored since morning. At the same time, the PWD machinery is busy restoring Lambathach, Chiuni, Chet and Shaitadhar roads. Now, only 20 roads are left to be cleared while all the power transformers have been restored.
