The monsoon is expected to regain momentum in Himachal Pradesh starting Thursday (July 11, 2024), with the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, issuing a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in several parts of the state from July 11 to July 13.
The monsoon rains are predicted to persist until July 17 across many parts of Himachal. Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was stopped on 12 roads in the state as of midnight on Thursday.
The ongoing monsoon season has caused substantial damage, with property losses amounting to ₹171 crore. Of this, the Public Works Department has incurred a loss of ₹101 crore and the rest being of the Jal Shakti Department.
Heavy rain alert in specific districts
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur. However, there is no alert for Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts. Recent rainfall measurements include 38 mm in Kasauli, 22 mm in Paonta Sahib, 13.2 mm in Nahan, 9.6 mm in Dharamshala, 8.4 mm in Olinda and 6 mm in Sarahan.
