Manali:
After days of disruption due to heavy snowfall, the strategic Manali-Leh highway has been reopened for vehicular movement. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully cleared snow from the 16,500-foot-high Baralacha Pass, restoring connectivity between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
The BRO teams worked tirelessly through harsh weather conditions to remove snow from the high-altitude stretch. With the route now open, traffic has resumed on this crucial trans-Himalayan corridor, which plays a key role for both tourism and military logistics.
High altitudes still shivering, plains warm up
As weather conditions improved across Himachal Pradesh, bright sunshine returned to many regions, especially in the mid and lower hills. This has led to a noticeable increase in daytime temperatures, according to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla.
However, the higher reaches, especially areas that recently experienced snow, continue to reel under intense cold. Minimum temperatures in several upper-altitude zones remain below freezing, maintaining a biting chill.
Light snow possible today, clear skies from tomorrow
According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated parts of the state may witness light rain or snow today, particularly in higher elevations. However, from October 11 to 16, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear across Himachal Pradesh.
In Shimla, sunny spells were observed today with occasional patches of cloud cover. The return of sunshine is likely to further improve travel conditions and help ease the winter chill in the coming days.
