Himachal Pradesh has been reeling under intense heat with Una recording the season’s highest temperature of 35.8°C.
Several other locations in Himachal Pradesh crossed the 30°C mark, including Dhaulakuan (33.8°C), Sundernagar (33.7°C), Bilaspur (33.1°C) and Kangra (32.8°C).
The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Solan districts for April 6-7, advising residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Sky to remain clear before western disturbance
Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience dry weather with clear sky until April 9, with temperatures expected to rise further by 1-2 degrees.
However, relief is in sight as a western disturbance is forecast to bring scattered rainfall to Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts on April 9.
More widespread rain and snow is predicted across several areas on April 10-11, which may bring down the mercury significantly.
Night temperatures provide some respite
While days have turned hot, nights are relatively pleasant across most stations. Key minimum temperatures recorded were: Shimla (13.2°C), Manali (7.1°C), Kalpa (4.4°C) and Kukumseri (0.7°C).
The weather office has warned travellers to monitor forecasts closely as the approaching western disturbance may cause sudden weather changes in higher reaches, potentially affecting road conditions.
