SHIMLA:
The cold wave has tightened its grip across Himachal Pradesh, with temperatures continuing to plunge sharply over the past few days. The biting chill has become particularly intense during morning and evening hours, forcing residents to wrap themselves in multiple layers. High-altitude regions are witnessing severe cold wave conditions, while light fog has begun to blanket parts of the plains and valleys.
According to data recorded by the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, 25 locations in the state reported minimum temperatures below 10°C. Among these, eight stations recorded temperatures below 5°C and three areas reported sub-zero conditions. Despite the freezing mornings, the sun has been shining brightly in Shimla and several other towns, offering some daytime relief.
In the coldest pockets of the state, including Keylong, Kukumseri and Tabo, the mercury dipped well below freezing. Kalpa also recorded temperatures around the freezing mark. The extreme cold has caused water in pipes and natural sources to freeze, disrupting daily routines in several villages. On Wednesday (November 12, 2025) morning, light fog was observed in Bilaspur and Sundernagar, slightly reducing visibility in the early hours.
The weather department has forecast dry weather across Himachal Pradesh until November 18. The continued drop in temperature has led to a spike in the sale of heaters, blowers and woollens in markets.
Meanwhile, the growing winter charm has boosted tourism, with Manali and Shimla witnessing a noticeable rise in tourist arrivals eager to experience the early winter chill.
As per official temperature readings, Shimla recorded a minimum of 9°C, Sundernagar 5.3°C, Bhuntar 4.1°C, Kalpa 0.2°C, Dharamshala 9.8°C, Una 8.5°C, Nahan 9.8°C and Keylong a freezing -3.0°C. Other notable readings include Manali at 2.7°C, Solan 5.3°C, Palampur 5.0°C, Kukumseri -2.9°C, Tabo -4.5°C, and Rekong Peo 3.0°C.
Meanwhile, maximum daytime temperatures remained moderate, with Una registering the highest at 27.6°C, followed by Kangra at 25.4°C, Hamirpur and Nahan at 26°C each, Mandi at 24.8°C, Solan at 24.5°C and Kasauli at 19.9°C.
The chill may not have reached its peak yet, but Himachal’s transition into deep winter has clearly begun, promising more frosty mornings and misty landscapes in the days ahead.
