Himachal weather: Alert for rain, snowfall issued for seven districts

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a heavy rain and snowfall alert for seven districts of Himachal Pradesh over the next two days. According to the department, the state will experience bad weather conditions for the next four days.


Over the past 24 hours, Manali recorded 7 mm of rainfall, Sangla 2.6 mm, Jot 1.2 mm and Bhuntar 0.5 mm. Gondla witnessed 13 cm of snowfall, Kukumseri 5.9 cm and Keylong 4 cm.

Yellow alert issued for heavy rain and snowfall

As per the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected at several locations across the state on March 14 and 16. On March 15, most areas are likely to experience rain and snowfall.


A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall at isolated places on March 15 and 16. On March 17, light rain and snowfall are expected at some locations, while from March 18 to 20, the weather is expected to remain clear across the state.


For March 15, the department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and snowfall in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi and Shimla districts. On March 16, the alert is applicable to Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, while light to moderate rainfall is expected in other districts.

Temperature expected to drop

Over the next three to four days, the minimum temperature is expected to gradually drop by 3-4°C. In the next 24 hours, the maximum temperature is likely to decline by 1-2°C, followed by a further significant drop of 3-5°C over the subsequent two to three days.


Under the two-day yellow alert, weather conditions deteriorated in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti from Friday evening. Heavy rainfall has disrupted daily life in Kullu, while snowfall has engulfed Lahaul-Spiti in freezing conditions.


Due to heavy rainfall, residents of Kullu are facing significant difficulties and tourists visiting Manali over the weekend have also been affected
