Chamba: Six members of a family were *killed in a car accident in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday (August 7, 2025) night.
According to information, the accident occurred in the Churah sub-division when a massive boulder fell onto the family’s moving Swift car, causing it to plunge approximately 500 metres into a deep gorge.
The car, bearing registration number HP44-4246, was en route from Bhajraadu to Srigar village when the incident happened at around 9.20 pm near the Sauya Pathri area. A sudden landslide caused large rocks to fall onto the vehicle, pushing it off the road and into the ravine below. All six passengers in the vehicle *died on the spot.
DSP Ranjan Sharma of Salooni confirmed the incident and stated that the police, fire brigade personnel and local residents worked through the night to recover the bodies from the gorge. He further said that the family belonged to the Churah sub-division of Chamba district.
The authorities have ruled out any human error in the incident, attributing the cause purely to a natural rockslide. The post-mortem examinations are scheduled at the Civil Hospital in Tissa. The victims have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, Hanso, Aarti, Deepak, Rakesh and Hem Pal. A pall of gloom has descended over the region after the six deaths.
The authorities have urged travellers to exercise extreme caution when driving through hilly terrain during the monsoon season when landslides and rockfalls are frequent.
