MANDI: In the aftermath of heavy overnight rainfall, the water levels of Juni Khud and Beas river surged dramatically early this morning, triggering alarm among residents of Pandoh. The sudden rise in water levels has created a flood-like situation, evoking fresh fears in a region still recovering from previous weather-related disturbances.

As part of pre-monsoon flushing operations at the Larji Dam, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) opened all five spillway gates of the Pandoh Dam on Sunday (June 29, 2025), resulting in an increased outflow into the Beas.

Speaking to the media, the BBMB Executive Engineer confirmed that approximately 44,000 cusecs of water is currently flowing through the Beas, which is being released in equal measure downstream via the Pandoh Dam. Meanwhile, the silt level has escalated to 4,000 PPM, prompting authorities to shut down the Baggi tunnel as a precautionary measure. Consequently, electricity production at the Dehar power house has been temporarily suspended.

The aggressive flow of Juni Khud, coupled with the rising Beas river, is being viewed as a serious development. BBMB and the local administration have issued advisories, urging the public to stay away from riverbanks and remain vigilant.

While officials maintain that the situation is currently under control, continuous monitoring is underway. Both BBMB and emergency response teams are on high alert to address any unforeseen developments swiftly.
