SHIMLA: The mystery surrounding the death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited Chief Engineer Vimal Negi has now reached the Himachal Pradesh High Court, with serious allegations and a demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe gaining momentum.

Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, while hearing a petition filed by Vimal Negi’s wife Kiran Negi, directed the state government to submit a status report within three weeks. The next hearing is scheduled for May 20.
In her petition, Kiran Negi has questioned the fairness of the investigation being conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), expressing complete dissatisfaction with the process so far.

Shift case to CBI to ensure justice, says wife

She urged the high court to ensure justice by transferring the case to the CBI, alleging that her husband’s death was being prematurely classified as a suicide without a comprehensive probe.
The tragic case began when Vimal Negi went missing on March 10. His body was later discovered on March 18 in Gobind Sagar Lake, Bilaspur.

Following his disappearance, Kiran Negi had written to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, accusing Power Corporation MD Harikesh Meena, Director Desraj and other high-ranking officials of mentally harassing her husband, which she believes may have contributed to his death.

FIR names top-ranking govt officers

These allegations were formally recorded in an FIR registered at the New Shimla Police Station. The FIR names former Director Desraj and MD Harikesh Meena as prime accused, with charges that may carry serious legal consequences if proven.

The case continues to draw public and legal attention, with growing calls for transparency, accountability and justice in what is increasingly seen as a matter of institutional harassment and possible foul play.
