SHIMLA: To expedite the resolution of pending revenue cases, the Himachal Pradesh government has issued directions to revenue officers not to allocate dates exceeding 10 days for new cases.
The directive mandates that patwaris, tehsildars and kanungos to settle matters, including of ‘intakal’ (mutation) and ‘takseem’ (demarcation), within 10 days of receiving applications. The move aims to curb the accumulation of pending cases and streamline the efficiency of revenue-related services.
Deputy Commissioners across all districts have been informed and are expected to implement the directive promptly.
Following the directive, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu initiated revenue lok adalats to address the backlog of thousands of pending revenue cases within the state.
At the tehsil level, individuals often face lengthy waiting periods to resolve revenue-related matters, requiring visits to the offices of patwaris, tehsildars, and kanungos. The scarcity of personnel in these roles due to vacant positions has further contributed to delays in completing citizens’ requests.
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasised the urgency of resolving revenue cases within a stipulated time frame, acknowledging the challenges posed by vacancies in key positions. The government’s directive aims to address this issue by enforcing a 10-day timeline for the settlement of each revenue case.
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi said officials had been explicitly instructed not to allocate dates beyond 10 days for settling revenue matters. While Revenue Lok Adalats were actively working to resolve pending cases, the emphasis on quick resolution underscored the government’s commitment to preventing the reoccurrence of a backlog, he said.
