Himachal DGP Ashok Tewari lists advanced security arrangements for International Kullu Dussehra

Multi-layered security and traffic arrangements in place to ensure peaceful celebrations

As the vibrant and world-renowned Kullu Dussehra festival approaches, the Himachal Pradesh Police have rolled out a detailed plan to ensure the smooth, secure and peaceful conduct of the celebrations. The festival, which draws thousands of visitors from across the globe, is a cornerstone of Himachal’s cultural calendar and a vital contributor to the local economy.


Featuring the participation of over 200 local deities, the event not only celebrates tradition but also showcases the spiritual and artistic heritage of the Kullu Valley.


In view of the scale and significance of the festival, Director General of Police Ashok Tewari has announced that high-level preparations have been made to manage the large influx of tourists and devotees. The focus will be on maintaining law and order, managing traffic efficiently and ensuring the safety of all participants, including locals, pilgrims and dignitaries.

3 IPS officers to work in tandem

Rahul Nath, Deputy Inspector General (Central Range), Mandi, has been designated as the overall incharge of the Kullu Dussehra festival arrangements. He will oversee all aspects of law and order, security deployment, traffic regulation and protocol coordination.


Working under his supervision, Kullu Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan Gokulachandran will be directly responsible for implementing security measures, managing vehicular movement and coordinating protocol duties throughout the event.


For on-ground deployment and venue-specific security, Padam Chand, Commanding Officer of the 3rd India Reserve Battalion in Panoh, Mandi, has been given charge. A former SP of Kullu, he brings valuable experience and local insight, having handled security arrangements for the festival in previous years. His familiarity with the terrain, cultural nuances and logistical requirements is expected to ensure highly effective execution of security strategies.


The police command structure will function in close coordination with SP Kullu and CO 3rd IRBn working under the direct supervision of DIG Rahul Nath, the DGP said in a statement. Daily reports concerning security, crowd control and traffic management will be forwarded to the Director General of Police through the Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), ensuring that any emerging situations are addressed in real-time.

Safety and comfort of visitors priority, says DGP

Recognising the international stature of Kullu Dussehra, the Himachal Pradesh Police have emphasised that the safety and comfort of visitors is its top priority. Comprehensive measures have been taken to streamline traffic movement, secure the Mela venue and manage crowd density during key processions and religious gatherings. Special teams have been deployed for patrolling, quick response, and coordination with local festival committees.


DGP Ashok Tewari has urged citizens and tourists to extend full cooperation to the police and administrative authorities. He stated, “Kullu Dussehra is a celebration of our shared heritage and divine tradition. Our preparations are focused on ensuring that this globally recognized festival is celebrated with peace, harmony, and complete security. We welcome all visitors to enjoy the festivities with confidence and joy.”
