Himachal Congress to get coordination committee before new executive body is formed

DHARAMSHALA: The process of restructuring the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) is set to gain momentum as state in-charge Rajani Patil has submitted her report to the party high command in Delhi.

The report, presented to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, details the current political scenario in the state and the feedback gathered from various party leaders.
During her recent two-day visit to Shimla, Rajani Patil had emphasised the need for better coordination between the state government and the party organisation.

To address this, she announced that a coordination committee would be formed before the new executive body was constituted.
Sources said the committee could be announced within the next couple of days. Following this, discussions will be held with senior party leaders to finalise the new HPCC executive.

Last week, Patil had conducted a series of meetings at the Pradesh Congress headquarters Rajiv Bhawan in Shimla.
She interacted with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Pradesh Congress Committee president Pratibha Singh, cabinet ministers and former party office-bearers.
The discussions primarily revolved around strengthening party-government coordination, addressing internal conflicts, and ensuring a more effective organisational structure.

The HPCC executive has been dissolved since November 2024, and the responsibility of forming the new body has been entrusted to Rajani Patil.
Party insiders suggest that the high command was closely monitoring the political developments in the state and would take a final decision soon.

With factionalism often surfacing within the state unit, the formation of a coordination committee was seen as a strategic move to maintain unity and avoid internal conflicts, said analysts. The Congress leadership was keen to establish a well-structured organisation ahead of upcoming political challenges.
