Himachal CM Sukhu launches ‘do-or-die’ battle against chitta mafia, starts three-month drive from Ridge

Shimla
: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday (November ) launched an intensified fight against chitta (synthetic drugs), declaring what he called a decisive, “karo ya maro” battle against the drug mafia. The campaign was formally rolled out at Shimla’s historic Ridge, where the Chief Minister flagged off a massive “Anti-Chitta Walkathon” to mark the beginning of a three-month “maha-abhiyan.”

Speaking at the launch, Sukhu issued a direct warning to traffickers, saying: “Chitta taskari chhor do nahi toh salakhon ke peeche jaoge. Nasha taskari mein chahe kitna bhi, koi bhi prabhavshali vyakti hoga, use nahi chhodenge (give up drug peddling, else you will land behind bars. It will not matter how influential you are).” He emphasised that the drive beginning November 15 would not remain a routine government exercise but would evolve into a “jan andolan”.

No influential person will be spared, says CM

Reiterating the government’s commitment to dismantling drug networks, Sukhu said the state would show zero tolerance towards those involved in chitta operations. Describing the battle as a “nirnayak jung”, he said strict instructions had been issued to police and district administrations to carry out sustained action across Himachal.

The chief minister said the campaign will be conducted at the state, district and sub-division levels, ensuring the participation of officials, students and community organisations.

Monitoring to reach panchayat level

Sukhu announced that the battle against drugs would be taken down to the grassroots. He said: “Nashe ke khilaaf ladai ko panchayat star tak le jaya jayega.” Panchayats identified as severely affected have been mapped and the government will soon set up a special ‘Anti-Chitta Cell’ within the police department to support dedicated enforcement and surveillance.

Thousands join CM in Ridge-to-Chaura Maidan Walk
The Anti-Chitta Walkathon, held from the Ridge to Chaura Maidan, saw heavy participation from youths, students and civil society groups. Many attendees described the initiative as a mission to “save the state’s younger generation.”

Sukhu walked alongside participants, underscoring the seriousness of the campaign. Awareness activities on drug abuse, its health impacts and preventive community action were organised throughout the route.
With the launch of the three-month drive and his uncompromising message to traffickers, the Chief Minister signalled that the state government has opened an all-out front against the chitta mafia. Officials said the coming weeks will see heightened enforcement, community mobilisation and coordinated action across administrative levels.

Sukhu’s tough stance, combined with his direct message — “koi bhi prabhavshali vyakti baksha nahi jayega” — makes clear that the government has now committed to an all-out, do-or-die campaign to eradicate the drug menace from Himachal Pradesh.
