Digital Forensic Division, DPRC building unveiled in major infra push

In a significant boost to crime investigation capabilities in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday (December 4, 2025) inaugurated the Digital Forensic Division and Advanced Equipment Laboratory at the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Dharamshala.
The new set-up, created with state-of-the-art infrastructure worth Rs 3 crore, comes equipped with advanced tools capable of extracting and analysing data even from damaged mobile phones, a capability long awaited by investigators.
An additional Rs 1.05-crore Advanced Equipment Laboratory has also been commissioned to enable high-precision forensic examination, with the installed equipment itself valued at Rs 1.50 crore.
Officials said the upgraded facilities would substantially enhance transparency, reliability and efficiency in forensic investigations across northern Himachal Pradesh. The CM noted that the digital division would significantly aid investigators in preserving and examining evidence, especially in cases where the punishment is seven years or more.
CM also lays foundation for staff quarters
Ahead of the RFSL event, CM Sukhu inaugurated the newly built District Panchayat Resource Centre (DPRC) in Kangra, constructed at a cost of Rs 3.92 crore.
He also laid the foundation stone for the DPO staff quarters of zila parishad at Kangra, a project estimated to cost Rs 2.26 crore.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, MLA Suresh Kumar, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta and PR&RD Secretary C Paulrasu were present at the events.
