Questions Congress govt’s silence on charges

Shimla: The political temperature in Himachal Pradesh soared on Friday (November 28, 2025) after BJP state general secretary Sanjeev Katwal launched a sharp attack on the Congress government and Cabinet Minister Jagat Singh Negi, accusing the minister of making “baseless and irresponsible” statements in the Assembly.
Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Sanjeev Katwal said Negi’s recent remarks reflected “a complete loss of mental balance” and alleged that the minister had violated the dignity of the House by issuing sweeping statements without factual backing. “Before commenting on the RSS, Jagat Negi should have thought ten times,” Katwal said, adding that the organisation had served the nation since 1925 and did not deserve “imaginary and fabricated allegations”.
He demanded that the Congress minister publicly apologise for attempting to “malign the RSS”, calling the remarks a reflection of what he described as “Congress’s distorted mindset”. He further alleged that Congress leaders were more focused on “headline hunting” than on delivering work on the ground.
Katwal also targeted Negi over his recent visit to Mandi district, alleging that disaster-hit residents who had approached the minister for relief ended up being booked under the SAR Act. “This shows the anti-people attitude of the Congress government,” he claimed.
Katwal went on to raise fresh questions about allegations against the minister’s son Vikram Negi. He said serious complaints, including domestic violence, intimidation and mental harassment, had been made public recently, yet no decisive action had been taken.
According to Katwal, the key allegations levelled by Vikram Negi’s wife include 15-16 instances of assault over four years, attempt to strangulate her, daily humiliation, caste and income-based insults, confiscation of her jewellery, mental harassment and denial of basic expenses, and lack of progress in complaints allegedly due to ministerial influence.
Calling the Congress government’s silence “shameful”, Katwal demanded to know when action would be initiated. “The same Congress that lectures on women’s safety must clarify whether its stand changes when the accused is a minister’s son,” he said.
Katwal warned that neither the BJP nor the people of Himachal would tolerate attempts to suppress the matter. “The Congress must give a clear and transparent response,” he added.
