MANDI: Three persons were *killed while two others were seriously injured after the car they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge on the Chatri-Janjehli road in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district late Sunday (August 3, 2025) night.
The accident involved a Maruti Alto, whose driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle and it veered off the road, plunging into the gorge. The impact *killed the three occupants on the spot while two others sustained critical injuries.
The incident came to light early Monday morning when local residents spotted the vehicle in the gorge and alerted the police. A rescue operation was immediately launched and after hours of efforts, the bodies were retrieved and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
The deceased have been identified as residents of Dhan, Gagan and Parala villages. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The injured are undergoing treatment, and their condition is said to be serious.
Preliminary investigations suggest that low night-time visibility and poor road conditions may have led to the accident. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the region. District authorities have expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured all possible assistance to the injured.
